Re: Agenda for 2011-01-04

My regrets to all, but I will not be attending today due to travel
considerations.

A few quick thoughts however:

1) Alain and I have both been chiming in regularly on the HTML/XML task
force lists. After some tense exchanges, I think people are settling down to
actually consider the problem domain at hand, which at the moment if
determining the use case set for various combinations of XML and HTML - XML
parsed in the HTML5 parser, HTML5 parsed in the XML parser, XML embedded in
HTML5, HTML5 embedded in XML and so forth. The discussion, at least for the
moment, seems to have shifted away somewhat from MicroXML, though that may
be revisited in the future.

2) One of the more problematic aspects of HTML5 is that you cannot use
pragmas or processing instructions, which means <?xml-stylesheet?> could be
an issue.

3) I have been trying to make the case for a null semantic <foreignContent>
element in HTML5, an element which would hold text, would not display or
search it, and most importantly that would not be parsed apriori by the
HTML5 engine. This could be used as a way of holding XML content that could
then manually be parsed by an XBL or related scripting environment.

Okay, have to run to catch a plane. Good luck, and I'll try to chime in more
when I can.
