I have the same concern, and there was a short discussion on this topic during the last F2F.

IMO, the role is not intrinsic to the resource descriptor itself, but it is rather an "attribute" of the relationship between the resource descriptor and a profile.

Personally, I see more appropriate to model roles as relationships between resource descriptors and profiles.
