Stephen Deach answered that by noting the context in which such altermative layout modes are needed: ".. Though not common in modern typography, historic techniques and writing modes are used in academic/scholarly publications and are often used for effect in advertising..." and Paul Nelson suggested that: "..An entire document on justification could be written that would help people understand expansion opportunities, compression, etc. I don't know that it makes it any more or less compelling to implement. .." Such a document, focusing on the layout issues, would be really valuable to have as a UTN. It would be able to serve as a background document from which not only possbile future CSS options for academic and advertising needs can be derived, but also serve as background to implementers who need to create and support layout services for Tibetan. I'm looking forward to his draft. A./
