In XML documents one normally defines the namespace prefixes within the root
tag, and one is completely free which one to use for a given namespace URI.
I think people often prefer "xs" simply because it's a character less to
write/read. 

For our purposes, however, I suggest to really use "xsd:" to make clear that
we talk about XSD. Also note that we use "xsd:" for facets.
