In jquery you can leave the first end of the combinator dangling as it is
implied.  I agree, it looks a little odd, but without exception so far
everyone says "could you..." and comes up with the same left implied
combinator so I would argue that in the very least it is intuitive as
anything else...  See the other comment about use of $ or # to remedy the
uneasy feeling this may give you.
