LT: NO to RAND Proposal

This message was posted as a talkback at /news_story.php3?ltsn=2001-09-30-001-20-NW-CY
I have been an Internet user since 1994 and now work
within the industry at the infrastructure level. I am
firmly opposed to the enshrinement of non-royalty-free
corporate patents as W3C standards.

I consider this proposal to be completely unacceptable
from both a technical and ethical standpoint, and I ask
that the W3C abandon this venture.

With RAND, the W3C would be gambling with the very future
of open networks and protocols. I am opposed to this crap
shoot (conducted on behalf of corporations like Kodak) and
pray that the W3C sees the error and rish inherent in this

Thank you,

Toronto, Canada
