W3C standards

While W3C is not a standards body, they have acted as
such. The development community has given W3C tacit
authority as a standards body. W3C is a consortium
financed primarily by its members. It makes sense
that their decisions primarily reflect the business
interests of those members that provide the most
funding. The WWW pioneers have set the stage; it is
perfectly natural now for big business to take over.
It just stinks.
