I am sorry I was in the air from Guatemala during Thursday's call. I feel like I let my blind friends down. I do not think we should add the SC 2.4.9. I don't think it will do any good, except for put an "in your face" message to web masters that they *don't* have to use descriptive link text in 2.4.5. I don't think we should use HTML examples of undescriptive link text in an array of links Technique: http://tinyurl.com/qu5sf when it is easy to use descriptive link text. ***Either with hidden text. http://www.eramp.com/david/testhide.html ***or with 1px images that have alt text (as Cynthia showed). [name of book as a link], [PDF version], [Doc version] Name of book, PDF Version, Doc Version ***Or simply with images that have alt text ***Or even by putting the array in a table. Where the Title of the book is in the left column and the headings above say HTML, PDF etc.... I think we are just trying to give web masters and excuse to use undescriptive link text. They will say "hey its ok to use undescriptive link in HTML... see, the WCAG did it in an example." And they will do this not only on arrays. We are fostering a culture of undescriptive text. I think we should just stay silent on HTML undescriptive link examples. I think we are just moving further and further away from accessibility every time we revise this and every time we try to create an HTML example of undescriptive link text. If I have to live with this I will...but I feel like I let my blind friends down and I think we are making the web a much more miserable place for screen reader users. In addition, we have added a new level 3 SC: The unique function of each link can be programmatically determined from the link. Could you let us know whether these changes have addressed your comments?
