I made a mistake ;-)
I think a node-set MUST be a well-formed XML or a character
sequence. A character sequence is used for an input of an
Encoding Transform. For example:
<ObjectReference IDREF="obj1">
<Transforms>
<Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-xpath-19991116">text()</Transform>
<Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/1999/11/xmldsig-core/base64"/>
</Transforms>
<DigestMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/1999/11/xmldsig-core/sha1"/>
<DigestValue Encoding="http://www.w3.org/1999/11/xmldsig-core/base64">
ogMsIIMS322j+ggLRYNuE5tJWSo=
</DigestValue>
</ObjectReference>
