Re: Translation process and Portuguese content

Yeah, Juarez: It was great meeting you at the Doc Sprint. So excited about a Portuguese translation!

Tomoyuki and all: Is there any reason we could not do wiki and then the language, such as:

http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/lang/es/<http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/lang/es/Main_Page>Main_Page<http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/lang/es/Main_Page>

Also, is there a technical reason why wikipedia does

http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Springs

?

Thanks.

Amazing! Thanks guys! The Web Platform Doc Sprint was nice... I am going back to Brazil on this Sunday, so I will start the translation process with the Brazilian community help.

I really think we need better urls just as Tomoyuki suggested.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

Although translation pages in some languages have already launched, the discussion about the rule of article names of translation pages still remains and no decision exists yet.

Currently the most popular way to create a new translation page is simply to add ISO language code as a subpage name like below:

However, it is pointed out that this naming rule could cause conflicts with some HTML tags, CSS units, etc.[1]

To solve this, two kinds of solution have been proposed so far[2].
One is to prepare separate host for every language like Wikipedia; es.docs.webplatform.org<http://es.docs.webplatform.org>, docs-es.wenbplatform.org<http://docs-es.wenbplatform.org>, etc.[3]
The other is to extend subpage name: docs.webplatform.org/wiki/Main_Page/lang-es<http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/Main_Page/lang-es>, docs.webplatform.org/wiki/Main_Page/lang:es<http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/Main_Page/lang:es>, etc.[4]

Personally I have no strong preference now; If either the current way, separate hosts, or subpage name extension would be adopted as a common rule, many Japanese engineers as well as I are ready to begin writing Japanese translations.

Best regards,
Tomoyuki
