Meeting Cancelled - July 5 2024 + Discussion for TPAC

Hi all,

This month’s PMWG meeting is cancelled due to the holiday in the US, for those celebrating, enjoy your long weekend!

We will be meeting next month on August 2. In preparation for that meeting, and as we put together an agenda for TPAC, we wanted to asynchronously discuss some of the topics suggested for the agenda.

Your thoughts on how we can proceed on the following topics would be appreciated:

  * Chartering – Some of the topics proposed could potentially require rechartering if they require a change to the EPUB specification, which is possible. What is the appetite for rechartering, and if we were to do so, what do we have in terms of new work for EPUB to justify the change? Do we have support from stakeholders to pursue the work?
  * Shared annotations and Locators – We’ve made various attempts on both topics over the last few years, what would we need to do to make it successful in EPUB/Publication Manifest/Audiobooks? What stakeholders do we need? What are the use cases and user expectations? Do we have reading system support?
  * Audiobooks Accessibility – There’s been a desire for this work for a while, but with work happening in pockets around the world (ex. CELA’s Audiobooks project in Canada), is it time for us to draft an equivalent Audiobooks Accessibility document to EPUB Accessibility?
  * Text-to-speech (TTS) – What do we want to say/do about TTS? Is this a best practices document, a review of the current technologies, a list of use cases? Who should we engage with on the topic? What challenges are out there for TTS regarding internationalization, language support, accessibility, etc?
  * Anti-counterfeiting, TDM (Text and Data Mining) – Where are we with these topics? What does the PMWG need to do (if anything), what problems remain to be solved or discussed?

If there are other topics, I encourage people to raise them as well. We are tracking TPAC topics in this GitHub issue as well: https://github.com/w3c/pm-wg/issues/5

Thanks,
Wendy, Tzviya, and Shinya
