http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=6236 Summary: scroll bar placement in frames Product: HTML WG Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: Spec proposals AssignedTo: dave.null@w3.org ReportedBy: intelnav@yahoo.com QAContact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org CC: ian@hixie.ch, mike@w3.org, public-html@w3.org Hello I'm not sure if this is a bug or a suggestion, maybe somewhere in between. The problem is with frames that have their scroll bars hidden because they are too long or too wide (usually too long) so the scroll bar is in the hidden area of the browser window. Sometimes it happens that the frame is very long so it's really annoying to go to its bottom to scroll it left or right, then go back to the place where you were in the frame. A typical situation (the one that happens to me more frequently anyway) is a Yahoo mail with many big pictures attached that are viewed inline. The frame has all pictures one under the other, and you can imagine it can be pretty difficult to view each picture if one has to always go to the bottom of the frame to scroll left or right. The obvious solution I think would be that the scroll bars for frames be displayed at the edges of the visible area of the frame, not at those of the frame itself, as they are currently. I tried to suggest this as a feature request (or bug) to Firefox and they said I should bring it up with you, because it's a standards issue. Which makes sense. If you'd like to see my discussion with the folks at Mozilla, here it is: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=925635 At begin they're talking about another (related) issue. My proposal starts at post 6, on nov. 13th, my user id is vsim. In this post I describe the problem, the proposed solution is in my third post in the discussion. Regards V.
