To mirror an earlier post, can someone explain what problem, exactly, that removing either <acronym> or <abbr> is trying to solve? Is it somehow terrifically expensive for UAs to support both? Is it because one or the other is often misused? And if so, what is the criteria for throwing out one of these versus another abused element, such as <table>? To my mind, the barrier for deprecating or removing an existing semantic, as opposed to presentational, tag from HTML should be very high. -Sandy Smith
