Re: Utah State-Endorsed Digital Identity (SEDI) legislation

Thanks for your assessment Manu. I presented actual practice on eIDAS in Europe but yes your doubts and the ones from Jori are indeed really interesting to see how we may improve the framework.

Especially interesting seems the Influence of EUDI in US.

So exciting times and thanks everybody for this great discussion

Best
Steffen

EUDI restrictions are attempting to be applied to things beyond
government IDs today in the US by major wallet vendors. I say this as
a vendor that is selling solutions in this space; this is a reality, I
am seeing it happen. The reasoning used is: "We want the best
protection for individuals, and that extends into the private sector."

You are arguing theory, I'm conveying the reality, as an implementer
of these technologies, in both the government and private sector.

I respectfully disagree with your statement “Many private actors request ID routinely”, at least in Europe this is not the case. Few private actors request your ID and even fewer make a record of your ID.

Jori and Filip have already pointed out the issues with the argument
above, and I agree with their assesment.

It's good to know where we disagree, though, and the conversation
around these topics has been a productive one. Thank you to everyone
that is defending the EUDI approach, we're learning a lot from it.
