Hi Manu, (Expressing my own opinions) EU is trying to enforce security by design through legislation. It is not EUDI, it is a broader philosophy. For instance identity management system are considered “important products of class 1” according to the Cyber Resilience Act (https://cra-cy.eu/uncategorized/european-commission-adopts-technical-descriptions-for-important-and-critical-products-with-digital-elements/) . I do not think that the goal of the EU is tosupport big companies . 14 Φεβ 2026, 6:59 μμ, ο χρήστης «Manu Sporny <msporny@digitalbazaar.com>» έγραψε: On Fri, Feb 13, 2026 at 6:10 PM NIKOLAOS FOTIOY <fotiou@aueb.gr> wrote: EUDI restrictions apply to government IDs and not to digital credentials in general. EUDI restrictions are attempting to be applied to things beyond government IDs today in the US by major wallet vendors. I say this as a vendor that is selling solutions in this space; this is a reality, I am seeing it happen. The reasoning used is: "We want the best protection for individuals, and that extends into the private sector." You are arguing theory, I'm conveying the reality, as an implementer of these technologies, in both the government and private sector. In my opinion the more restrictions there are on the use of government IDs in online services the better for individuals. I respectfully disagree with your statement “Many private actors request ID routinely”, at least in Europe this is not the case. Few private actors request your ID and even fewer make a record of your ID. Jori and Filip have already pointed out the issues with the argument above, and I agree with their assesment. It's good to know where we disagree, though, and the conversation around these topics has been a productive one. Thank you to everyone that is defending the EUDI approach, we're learning a lot from it. -- manu -- Manu Sporny - https://www.linkedin.com/in/manusporny/ Founder/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc. https://www.digitalbazaar.com/
