I really like the use of the hotel reservation service, and regularly championed it. However, the problem that I see with the hotel scenario is that I don't think it is very amenable to a REST/HTTP centric interface. You basically need property/documentish things that can be read/written without side-effects, effectively "dead" properties as WebDAV calls them. Reservations and flight availability etc. are not really modelled well as CRUD operations. I struggled to think of an extension to the reservation scenario, and the best that I came up with was the traveller profile. But it seemed a real stretch to push the traveller profile into a res system. Hence why I settled on something that already exists in the real world of an Artist (and then I was thinking of adding Albums). If you have ideas on how to do this in a manner that is more suitable to the primer, I'm quite keen. As for the use of Schema, that's the way that the binding seems to end up forcing things. I think it is an interesting observation that the HTTP binding requires extensive use of XML Schema to work properly. If you want to show the HTTP binding in any RESTful way, ie GET/PUT/POST/DELETE resources, you need lots of schema work. Something worth thinking about as we examine the http binding. Personally, I'm trying to figure out if there's a simpler way of using Schema and REST together.
