The W3C Voice Browser Working Group held their winter face-to-face meeting in Mandelieu, France, February 28 thorugh March-3, 2006. On Tuesday, February 28, we attended the Multimodal Interaction Working Group meeting where we discussed and resolved issues (1) raised during the authoring of several example SCXML/VXML/XHTML multimodal applications and (2) feedback from developers of multimodal applications. The two working groups also met with the Compound Document Framework Working Group and discussed how the multimodal framework relates to CDF's compound document backplane. We also met with the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group where the Multimodal Interaction Working Group agreed to provide a set of guidelines for developing speech and multimodal applications. On Thursday, March 2, the Voice Browser Working Group reviewed and discussed the status of each of its subgroups. We also discussed an event-driven Forms Interpretation Algorithm, external events and data in the Data-Flow-Presentation framework to be used by VoiceXML 3.0, and an adapter for VoiceXML 2.0/2.1 so they can run in VoiceXML 3.0. Several future telephone meetings were scheduled to clarify and resolve issues raised during this discussion. On Friday, March 3, the Voice Browser Working Group reviewed several detailed proposals for VoiceXML 3.0, including speech identification and verification, extended media (including video), a new cond attribute in the grammar element, connection bridging, and EXPR properties. Several future telephone meetings were scheduled to review final versions of these proposals. Our next face-to-face meeting will be held in Atlanta on June 19-21.
