I18Ners, In the following public message http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2009May/0189.html Rob Steiner points out that the CSS property ('ruby-position') for where Ruby annotations appears has a default value that does not work for complex Ruby with two RTC elements. The current CSS default for 'ruby-position' is specified in http://www.w3.org/Style/Group/css3-src/css3-ruby /#rubypos <http://www.w3.org/Style/Group/css3-src/css3-ruby/> The suggested fix for the issue raised is to add an 'auto' value to 'ruby-position'. This value would become the default and would make the default position for the first RTC element be on the 'before' edge of the base text and the default position for the second RTC element be on the 'after' edge of the base text (as shown in the examples in the Ruby Annotation Recommendation http://www.w3.org/TR/ruby/#complex ) Rob Steiner's message also suggests that having an 'auto' value would allow different default positioning for Chinese Bopomofo annotation. By this message the CSS Working Group solicits input in this proposal from the I18N IG. Steve Zilles
