--> You are now talking on #simile <AndyS> Hi Mark <AndyS> Where are you? <marbut> in pluto <AndyS> Hmm - already got connected at my desk. I don't have a portable here today so I thought I'd IRC from my desktop --> shab_hpmob (paulshabaj@192.6.10.2) has joined #simile --> kevins2 (chatzilla@192.6.19.190) has joined #simile <marbut> in attendance: MacKenzie, John Ericsson, Andy Seaborne, John Gilbert, Paul Shabajee, Kevin Smathers <marbut> JE: has everyone read Mick's email about logistics? <marbut> MS: Is this a new use case that has been added by JE / MB? <marbut> JE: It's not only new, its a proposal for a big fat use case <marbut> Prior to discussing it I want to frame it <marbut> There is a lot in the prototype document because it is a draft. I hope today to explain what is there <marbut> MS: Looking at the original use case document, there was a load of miscellaneous use cases. So this is meant to subsume this, not be in addition to this <marbut> JE: First topic is a review of the logistics for the plenary <marbut> see Mick's email <marbut> Any questions or problems? <marbut> MS: What about transportation? <marbut> JE: HP has arranged a bus on Tuesday. It looks like they made a mistake, it says Thursday <marbut> KS: Talking to Mick yesterday, I think I am taking a car and Mick is taking a car also. <marbut> MS: So you guys are getting Rob down there. <marbut> What's David Karger doing? <marbut> JE: That's a good question. <marbut> Shall we move on to the agenda for the plenary? <marbut> (See mail from Mick) <marbut> KS: Are these just open discussion, or do we want a facilitated discussion? <marbut> MS: I think this is important also, we've got lots here to get through <marbut> JE: I'll ask him what is plan is? <marbut> MS: I wonder if know if he is going to produce some sort of discussion paper for the structure of the project? <marbut> Is there going to be a proposal here or a brainstorming type of thing? <marbut> JE: Any other questions folks? <marbut> Session 3 after lunch is tuning the plan <-- shab_hpmob has quit (Quit: shab_hpmob) <marbut> That's the scope of the two days, group dinner wednesday night <marbut> Mick is assuming early starts, and a fairly late finish on Wednesday. <marbut> AS: The 1500 deadline on the Thursday is a hard deadline. <marbut> JE: Yes that's noted. <marbut> So are we happy that we have covered that? <marbut> MS: We may want to do some thinking about thursday on wednesday evening <marbut> JE: Please, any comments let us know <marbut> The other thing we want to cover is proposed general use case I sent out the pdf on <marbut> We want to review any changes that have happened on the key documents, then an update on the hiring process <marbut> MS: Can we do the logistical stuff, first as I may need to leave early? <marbut> We have posted the position, I am talking to one person who might be a good fit on it, but no start until the fall, we need to get through --> shab_hpmob (paulshabaj@192.6.10.2) has joined #simile <marbut> the hiring process. But my understanding is that David Karger is waiting for Mick to help him. <marbut> KS: So it take two months with David? <marbut> MS: Don't know, there is some bureacratic process you need to go through <marbut> JE: Shall we go onto the lifecycle, or changes to the documents? <marbut> MB: The major change is the lifecycle section, so I suggest we review that <marbut> JE: On the document I sent out, its split into two parts: a section for use cases, then a section on demonstrators <marbut> Policy management enforcement, ..... (see document) <marbut> These are the general capabilities <marbut> The premise here is there is agreement between the libraries and the users about how things are contributed. <marbut> Its the OAIS lifecycle, e.g. SIP to DIP to AIP (submission, dissemination and archival) <marbut> So there are 7 different and somewhat related use cases <marbut> So there is a conversation between the library community about this. <marbut> MS: I am a little bit concerned. This is a totally different use case, we haven't really thought about it, <marbut> going through the OAIS framework takes time, is this really something we want to spend time on at the plenary <marbut> JE: Yes, I've been concerned about the scale of this, and we need to talk about how to deal with this <marbut> The question is "is it important to SIMILE?" <marbut> JE: Anybody else got any concerns about this? <marbut> If you have specific points on this document, email me and the list? <marbut> JE: I understand Paul has added some stuff to learning object use case <marbut> PS: I've drafted a rough version of that I sent to Mick, the problem is it doesn't fit into the structure of the use case as is <marbut> MB: If Paul sends it to the list today, and I'll incorporate it as soon as possible <marbut> JE: Rob is not on the call, I don't think there have been any changes since last week <marbut> No updates from Eric or David. <marbut> MS: They are not working on these documents, we need to make sure they read them before wednesday. <marbut> JE: Anything else to say? <marbut> KS: Lets wrap up. <marbut> JE: Anything else please email the list <-- shab_hpmob has quit (Quit: shab_hpmob)
