RAND

I feel, as many I know do, that the freedoms we share with regard to
non-proprietary standards on the web are of great importance.

The ability to freely share ideas and code in the interest of improving
the internet would be threatened by the incorporation of proprietary
standards and/or protocols.

It is extremely important that all use of standards and protocols with
respect to the internet be totally free of royalty fees and
restrictions. All standards must be totally open. Source code
implementations must be available for review and use by all.

The only motivation for allowing non open standards and protocols would
be to make money. Doing so at the expense of the community as a whole is
never justifiable.

Thank you,
