The RAND conflicts with the philosophy of the internet

Just read this story:
http://linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2001-09-30-001-20-NW-CY

I find this very disturbing. The open internet society needs patent free web
standards in order to continue the development of free software that complies
with your standards.

This change of policy is in deep conflict with the philosophy of the
internet, which has been to allow free communication and exchange of
opinions and ideas.

Please reconsider.

Greetings
