If the article on www.linuxtoday.com is accurate, then I feel I must protest in the strongest possible terms at the proposal for the W3C to endorse royalty-based standards. This amounts to a serious attack on the ability of Open Source software to be used in web-related applications - particularly ironic considering that the web had its roots in that same Open Source ethos.
