If that were my only line of reasoning, I would tend to agree, but you're taking my statement out of the context of the entire conversation with Anne. He's made several statements that indicate he isn't following the emails on this list (including ones from you), and isn't adding any information to the task of deciding how to deal with the problem of legacy events. By contrast, Chaals attended the telcon, and made reasoned arguments there and on the mailing list, as well as adopting what strikes me as a pragmatic position. That's the context. I disagree that deprecation is not useful, and I stated a rational argument why. In response, Anne has simply stated that in so many words, that he doesn't like it, without stating or pointing to actual arguments against deprecation. My tone was indeed dismissive, because I don't think Anne is making a serious effort to contribute to this thread, which I find frustrating, because it's using time I could be spending researching or working on the spec. Maybe I should simply STFU and ignore him? And with that, that's as much time as I'm going to spend on this meta-argument. I'm fine with deprecating the events, but I don't think it's helpful to remove them from the spec. It would go counter to one of the goals that the group set out with (documenting existing behavior), and would actually introduce problems for SVG, XForms, and probably other specs and implementations.
