RE: accessible date input [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Thanks Harry,

That's a nice example. I haven't tried it with many browsers yet but it seem
to avoid the problem of forcing keyboard users to go through a calendar if
they don't want to by allowing them to enter the date manually and then not
open the calendar. But, those who prefer to use a calendar can still do so.

Roger

one of the best examples I know of is at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
(XHTML)

When the date field receives focus, the date picker appears; users with
mouse can select a date, or keyboard users can enter a date manually.
Keyboard users can also click the calendar icon and then select a date from
the calendar picker, using the keyboard (up/down, left/right scrolls through
days - and continues  into next month when you reach the end of this month;
pg up/dn scrolls through months).

Take care, Harry

Subject: accessible date input

Hi

I am looking for an accessible way to input dates that allow the user to
either enter the date via the keyboard in a text field or enter the date
from an accessible datepicker calendar.

This is to be used with a site using HTML 4.01 Strict (i.e. not HTML 5).

Anyone got any suggestions.

Thanks

Roger
