one of the best examples I know of is at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/(XHTML)
When the date field receives focus, the date picker appears; users with
mouse can select a date, or keyboard users can enter a date manually.
Keyboard users can also click the calendar icon and then select a date from
the calendar picker, using the keyboard (up/down, left/right scrolls
through days - and continues  into next month when you reach the end of
this month; pg up/dn scrolls through months).
