horizontal scrolling of vertical text is not a problem 

the problem there is vertical scrolling .

the problem isnt two dimensional scrolling — it is any scrolling in the direction of text reading - because you lose track of the beginning of the next line  (as well as needing to keep moving the text you are reading for each line
