Dear Kyung Shim, thank you for your efford in this. I have some remarks, though - in the meantime, the document you translated reached Recommendation status. You said you translated the Proposed Recommendation version; would it be possible to update it to the Recommendation? The differences should be minor, but it may be way better to have that version for the public. - I am not sure I understood your second remark. Do you mean to say that KISTI will *charge* for the translation, ie, the translation will be sold and will not be publicly available? This would be most unfortunate, as all our documents *and* all the translations thereof are freely available on the web. Furthermore, the legal statements that you refer to in your mail also refers to the W3C Document Licensing rules [1] which clearly states that "Permission to copy, and distribute the contents of this document [...] in any medium for any purpose and without fee or royalty is hereby granted" I hope that this is only a misunderstanding. If so, I will need the URL of your translation, so that I could add it to the official translation list (however, if your plan is indeed to charge for the translation than, unfortunately, I cannot do that...) At last we've finished the "W3C Proposed Recommendation 15 December 2003 http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/PR-rdf-primer-20031215/version. We're going to publish it in paper and on web by the end of this year. > > Both formats will NOT be sold & distributed without charge. > > Kyung Shim > > > > > === Below === > [Mail] Dated : Oct. 4, 2003 > > Dear Sirs/Madams: > > I am writing this mail of reqeusting permision to translate on behalf of the Korea Society for Information Management. > > We are planning to translate the lastest version of RDF Primer in Korean. > > This project is for Korean researchers and students in Korea who might be interested in RDF but with limited fluency in English. > > The publisher will be the Korea Society for Information Management (http://www.kosim.co.kr), which is a non-profit scholarly society. > > We fully understand the requirements appeared on your web page (http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Legal/IPR-FAQ-20000620#translate) and will comply with them. > > We'd like to proceed with our plan, if we are not advised otherwise. > > Thank you very much. > > Kyung Shim (Mr.) > > Researcher > Information Resources Center > KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) > DaeJon, Korea -- Ivan Herman W3C Communications Team, Head of Offices C/o W3C Benelux Office at CWI, Kruislaan 413 1098SJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands tel: +31-20-5924163; mobile: +31-641044153; URL: http://www.w3.org/People/all?pictures=yes#ivan
