I find the "though in principle extensible" confusing here, since it precedes the subject of the sentence (the microdata schemas). So I'd prefer something like: Although they are, in principle, extensible, microdata schemes would need to be heavily extended in order to express library information since most of the required vocabulary is lacking. or Microdata schemes, while in principle extensible, would require a lot of extension for use in expressing library information since most of the required vocabulary is lacking. or Although in principle they are extensible, microdata schemes would need to be heavily extended in order to express library information since most of the required vocabulary is lacking.
