Re: Talk sub-domain and chat page.

Hi, Garbee:

Re: #1: It was discussed at a general meeting. Doug was following up. So he can do that with the a11y folks. Just wanted to make a note of that.

That's cool that we have the webchat. And I understand why we have to move it, and get rid of talk. But now that I think about it, what about just keeping Discussion and having it point to webchat? Then, more folks would show up on the IRC and be in the live stream of WPD life.

What do others think?

For point one, I haven't seen any Mailing list discussion about that (probably just lost in gmail somewhere if it did occur) and I have only heard some comments in IRC about it, so I have no clue on the status of an a11y forum.

We do have webchat functionality, with my improved version [1] it includes a freenode webchat embed. That is why it would be moved off the talk subdomain onto www. To keep the infrastructure simpler.

+1 to remove Discussion. That kind of thing should be gotten to through the Community page.

Hi, Garbee:

Please let me know if any of this is incorrect:

 1. Forums is down, due to technical difficulties. When we can put it back into production is unknown. So we won't be supporting an accessibility forum there as we previously discussed until further notice.
 2. We currently do not have IRC web chat functionality on this site.
 3. Since there's no forums and not web chat, for now, we're going to take down talk.webplatform.org<http://talk.webplatform.org> altogether.
 4. Since there's no talk.webplatform.org<http://talk.webplatform.org>, we should also remove the global nav "Discussion" from everywhere:
    *   Www
    *   Docs
    *   Blog
    *   Project

Thanks.

The talk sub-domain no longer has a reason to stick around. The only thing hosted there is the defunct chat page. I think we should simply turn off the talk subdomain and move the chat page (with improvements [1]) to the primary www domain. This will reduce the sub-domains that need to be maintained and simplify management.

Any issues going down this road?
