The discussions like these are in my local hacker groups, clubs, and
meetups around me in Dallas, TX area.  The place where showcasing of
prototyped apps, etc and Q/A towards the industry players and what problems
they are solving adn what tools they are using or building, typically takes
place.

I would encourage you to attend or start such events or clubs with peers in
your area.  I use meetup.com
