Dan responded correctly. But I will add a few footnotes.
Freebase's (commons) schema is more or less developed with community
involvement and feedback as well, like Schema.org on this mailing list and
it's wiki.
Everyone (all stakeholders in the Semantic Web and Knowledge
Representation) wants the idea of Linked Data to fulfill it's prophecy.
(everyone linking to everyone else's concepts, types, properties in an
ideal www)
Regarding the longer tail domains and stuff your just not seeing surface in
Schema.org yet....you see much more involvement and alignment of that in
things like Freebase's \base types and DBpedia and WikiData and I imagine
that will only continue and grow as it has already.
