Data Elements for Microcredentials (Europe and Australia)

Europe

Today June 16th, the CoE recommended <https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2022/06/16/council-recommends-european-approach-to-micro-credentials/>(formal endorsement) the EU Approach To micro-credentials <https://education.ec.europa.eu/education-levels/higher-education/micro-credentials>.

Beside a lot of blah-blah-blah (still useful for context), the document specifies A number of standard elements to describe a micro-credential.

These standard elements (mandatory and optionals) will be included in a European data model that specifies a common format for describing micro-credentials. The data model will be available as an open standard to be used by providers of micro-credentials, where relevant, and could support interoperability and easier exchange of data on micro-credentials

Find the table of these data elements in Annex I of the official document (pag. 27) <https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-9237-2022-INIT/en/pdf>

🚨 The EU is currently the only one region that provides guidance for technical specifications and data models of microcredentials. One example could be found in the documentation of the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure Data Models and Schemas <https://ec.europa.eu/digital-building-blocks/wikis/display/EBSIDOC/Data+Models+and+Schemas>

Australia

In Nov. 2021 the Australian government published its National Microcredentials Framework <https://www.dese.gov.au/higher-education-publications/resources/national-microcredentials-framework> which includes guidance on Critical Information Requirements (p.12)

HERE <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wCNoCXIgSvMHCW_itoHPXmO_NWAloAg3PZlxuXdTsq8/edit?usp=sharing> is a sheet with the Data Elements for convenience.

While these are not technical data models, they should provide guidance to extend current payloads of existing technical specification for learner records.
