Vinay, I fear we have a fundamental disagreement about the purpose of DNT. The FTC recommends "the implementation of universal, one-stop choice mechanism for online behavioral tracking." Audience measurement is behavioral tracking. DNT:1 should stop it. Regards, John On Oct 2, 2013, at 4:01 PM, Vinay Goel <vigoel@adobe.com> wrote: > I disagree. The fact that there is a separate opt-out mechanism does not undercut the purpose of DNT. DNT cannot be the single tool to provide privacy management options for all Internet-related data collection activities. Different data collection activities pose different privacy threats; and privacy preference options should reflect that. > > -Vinay > > From: John Simpson <john@consumerwatchdog.org> > Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2013 3:57 PM > To: Jeffrey Chester <jeff@democraticmedia.org> > Cc: Mike O'Neill <michael.oneill@baycloud.com>, "public-tracking@w3.org" <public-tracking@w3.org>, 'Justin Brookman' <jbrookman@cdt.org> > Subject: Re: change proposal to issue-25 > Resent-From: <public-tracking@w3.org> > Resent-Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2013 3:58 PM > > In addition the proposal to have a separate opt-out mechanism undercuts the purpose of DNT. > > > On Oct 2, 2013, at 3:43 PM, Jeffrey Chester <jeff@democraticmedia.org> wrote: > >> I concur. Insufficient evidence has been submitted showing why standard statistical methods extrapolating panel observations would not work, and why it would be necessary to use persistent unique identifiers on every request irrespective of someone’s preference not to be tracked. >>> >>> >>> Mike >> >
