Hi, SVG IG- Most of you are aware that David Daily has generously offered to donate his SVG book, "An SVG Primer for Today's Browsers", to the W3C for publication. We discussed this during the SVG IG telcons of 7/17 and 7/31, and there was unanimous agreement to approve publication as a W3C note under the aegis of the SVG IG. Consistent with our discussion, the chairs will consider this resolution to have passed if no objections are received by 8/6. Sorry it took so long to post this, but I was waiting to see if there were legal complications. It seems the W3C has never had the situation arise where a book author wishes to donate a book to us, so it took a little research and work by our legal team to come up with a sensible and fair policy. Among the considerations were copyright assignment and author reuse, as well as sub-licensing. I'm pleased to state that David has agreed to the terms of the copyright assignment, assuming that this group agrees to publish it. This is a precedent that I'd like to see more of... it's very helpful to authors. Regards- -Doug Schepers W3C Team Contact, WebApps, SVG, and CDF
