Hi there, my name is Michael Schroeder and I am a professor of bioinformatics at the TU Dresden, Germany. My group works on protein interactions extracted from literature and 3D protein structures. We developed an ontology-based literature search engine, www.GoPubMed.org, which is an example of a semantic web application. It's online, so please try it. On the site you also find a paper if you are interested. We collaborate a lot with people from biology and medicine to analyse high-throughput data such as gene expression and RNAi data. I am sitting in the Biotec, an interdisciplinary center with groups dedicated to genomics, proteomics, developmental genetics, tissue engineering, cellular machines, biophysics, and numerous biotec start-up companies. We recently won a grant to set up a 60M EUR center for regenerative medicine. We have also access to a recently bought supercomputer with over 3000 CPUs and 2 TB *shared* memory. I am also coordinator of the bioinformatics group of the REWERSE project (www.rewerse.net), which develops rule-based approaches for the semantic web and the Sealife project, which will develop a semantic grid browser. The idea is to build a browser, which uses ontologies and textmining to link bioinformatics services to relevant entities on the page on the fly. Have a nice weekend, Michael -- --- Michael Schroeder, Professor in Bioinformatics Biotec/Dept. of Computing, TU Dresden Tatzberg 47-51, 01307 Dresden, Germany w: www.biotec.tu-dresden.de t: +49 351 463 400 60 f: +49 351 463 400 61 e: ms@biotec.tu-dresden.de
