Intoductions: Natalia Maltsev, Argonne National Laboratory

Hello,

I am Natalia Maltsev, the head of the Bioinformatics group at the
Mathematics and Computer science division of Argonne National Laboratory.
My group is developing the PUMA2 system for High-throughput genetic
sequence analysis and Metabolic reconstructions from sequence data in the
framework of taxonomic and phenotypic information. I was involved in
the development of integrated systems for bioinformatics for the
last 12 years, including the WIT and WIT2 systems (with Ross Overbeek and
Evgenii Selkov), Sentra, Pathos, etc.

I was actively involved in the development of GO, BioPax, I3C and
phenotypic ontologies. Use of ontologies is absolutely essential for the
data mining and the development of integrated information systems, like
PUMA2. The Semantic Web has integrated a number of technologies that are
very useful and we are planning to use it in our future work.

With best regards,
Natalia Maltsev
