So I think we have to say that such literals are treated simply as denoting unknown objects in the universe. Well, I'm still not completely sure what you mean when you say, “the datatype is considered to be part of the entailment regime”. But I believe we agree. I guess a literal with unknown datatype simply denotes an arbitrary resource in IL, per the existing condition in Simple Entailment. There would be no further constraint placed on it, as there is no L2V known for the datatype.
