Most SQL data values *can* be expressed directly as a typed literal using an appropriate existing XSD type. True. The usefulness would be for those where there _is_ such restriction. Just for the sake of completeness, it would make some sense; eg, my OWLRL reasoner would detect a mismatch between an actual literal and the restriction type if the latter is used as the range of the corresponding predicate.
