Do you know if this involves creating a presentation, or is it more an interview dialogue format? We really should have somebody able to speak from the standards point of view. Lisa and Jonathan are of course both great choices and both involved in accessibility work. I suspect it’s the prospect of having to come up with a presentation that soon that might be the reason nobody from the Accessibility Task Force stepped up on this.

Hello Bill,

I hope you're doing well and enjoying the summer! I'm reaching out because I'd like to pin down a final speaker for an upcoming Book Business webinar on accessibility, specifically how book & journal publishers can ensure that their digital content — ebooks, websites, online courses — are accessible to all types of readers. I know that the IDPF has always had a big focus on accessible ebooks, and now with the W3C merger, all manner of digital/online accessibility. I was wondering if you, or perhaps an IDPF member working on accessibility issues would be interested in speaking on this webinar?

We're hosting the webinar on 9/26 at 12pm ET, and I've confirmed two speakers thus far (one spot left): Lisa Nicks, director of accessibility at McGraw-Hill Education, and Jonathan Thurston, head of accessibility product management at Pearson. Ideally, we'd like a non-education publisher to join to add a little more diversity to the panel.

More details are below. Would this be of interest?

How Accessible Content Can Unlock New & Diverse Audiences
9/26 at 12pm ET, Sponsored by SPI Global

Companies in the publishing, elearning, and entertainment industries have been quick to develop digital content in the hopes of reaching more consumers than ever before, but one important feature is often lacking -- accessibility. Consumers cannot engage with digital materials that they cannot access. Content producers should seek to make their content more accessible to all types of consumers, whether they have a vision impairment or speak a different language. By integrating features like text-to-speech, closed captioning, subtitles, and audio description, companies can reach larger and more diverse audiences. In this webinar, expert speakers will share how they have made their content more accessible.

Attendees will learn:

· Why accessible content is critical for publishing, entertainment, and elearning companies

· What technologies and services support the development of accessible content

· How to integrate subtitles, text-to-speech, and audio descriptions into digital content and meet a variety of platform requirements

· About the legal requirements for accessible content, particularly in the education market
