LDP WG, meet ODRL. ODRL, meet the LDP WG... If you are familiar with the LDP WG's initial work on Access Control [1], please take a look at ODRL [2] and vice versa. They are not the same by any means. The use cases, communities of interest and implementation expectations are all different. BUT... both groups are essentially talking about access control one way or another. Both communities are asking for a new WG to take this forward. So my question is pretty basic: could you work together? Would the tensions between the two communities be such that a combined solution would be a dog's dinner (i.e. very bad) or could it be that the combined force of the two communities means there's a greater chance of success for both? We're having to prioritise work very carefully and so more than ever, we need to show significant W3C member support before we can launch new WGs so I'm looking to expand the pool of member interest as much as possible. That said, if a combined approach is a really bad idea then, well, it's a really bad idea and we shouldn't think about it. Both groups press historical buttons for me by the way. POWER Grouping [3] is all about defining groups of resources based on URI structure so you can make statements about/set policies for lots of resources at once. Comments welcome of course. Please cc me directly as I'm not subscribed to either list.
