Hello,
Rich's proposal has morphed into the Image Capture specification: see http://www.w3.org/TR/image-capture/. I will most likely add focus/autofocus and zoom settings to the next version of the doc, based on consensus within the Media Capture Task Force. Only Mozilla is working on an implementation of takePhoto() currently as far as I can tell - see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=916643.
HTML Media Capture (http://www.w3.org/TR/html-media-capture/) is also a viable alternative if you don't mind using a declarative API. An overview of existing support is provided in http://mobilehtml5.org/.

Subject: Html5 and autofocus photo
Good morning
I am writing after having read following link:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-media-capture/2012Aug/0035.html
With my friend Mattia I am developing a webapp with html5.
In particular I have to acquire a barcode photo via html5.
My question is:
Is it possible with html5 take photo with autofocus ? (Like native approach)
I thank you very much for your precious cooperation and I remain.
Cheers
Carlo
