RE: Resolving the NNBSP problem

Hi Leonard,

I have tried following PDF viewer or editor on my Windows 10 OS.

1. PDF Architect 3 (PDF editor professional version which is based on PDFForge),
 1) The NNBSP copy/paste is successful.
 2) But the all of the ligatures(second character drop) in Mongolian copy/paste failed.

2. PDF XChange Viewer
 1) The NNBSP copy/paste is successful.
 2) But the all of the ligatures(inserted space after ligature) in Mongolian copy/paste failed.
 3) The MVS(U+180E, drop) in Mongolian copy/paste failed.

3. SumatraPDF Viewer
 1) The NNBSP copy/paste is successful.
 2) Mongolian copy/paste entirely successful.

It seems the Acrobat copy/paste is dropping or modifying the NNBSP with space.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Jirimutu

In reviewing the PDF itself, it seems to be perfectly valid including properly encoding some characters to the NNBSP value using the standard methods. The one thing that is strange (but I don’t know if it’s related as yet) is that the language of the document is marked as Japanese (ja-JP).

A quick review of the Acrobat code did not show any special casing of this value, but it may be happening elsewhere - so this will take a bit more time than I originally allocated. So please be patient.

One question for you, have you seen other PDF viewers that do properly return the NNBSP? If so, which ones on which OS platform?

Thanks,
Leonard
