Summary: Canvas must define what HTML elements may be used in
the DOM Subtree
Product: HTML WG

Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: HTML5 spec (editor: Ian Hickson)

Canvas introduces a number issues for browser manufacturers when introducing
HTML elements that are not rendered in the canvas subtree. We need to asses if
there are limitations as to what may be used in the DOM subtree for <canvas>.
Currently the specification says very little about the use of the DOM subtree
and its association with the <canvas> drawing surface. This needs to be better
defined.
