hi all,
In yesterdays html accessibility task force meet [1] Charles McCathieNevile
talked about Opera's intention to investigate the implementation of image
maps on canvas as a method of providing keyboard interaction, focus and DOM
based access to controls on a canvas (<area> + ARIA).

here is a mockup of the idea (a transparent image map stretched over a
canvas) I did a while back
http://www.paciellogroup.com/blog/misc/canvas-pie/pie.html
I did a little ad hoc testing and found that current support for ARIA roles
on the area element is patchy. (works in IE not in Firefox)
