This section is fine as far as HTML elements go. For reasons of backwards compatibility, the we have only one namespace we can use and this section correctly designates exactly that namespace. However, the spec should give guidance on integration of elements from certain well-known foreign namespaces into the XML serialization. This guidance doesn't need to be in this particular section, though. For further opinion about foreign namespaces in the XML serialization, please refer to http://lists.whatwg.org/pipermail/whatwg-whatwg.org/2007-February/ 009631.html Aside: As for foreign namespaces in the text/html serialization, I think the matter of serializing MathML and SVG in text/html has not been pursued far enough yet and is still worth pursuing by this WG. (For potential problems, please refer to http://golem.ph.utexas.edu/ ~distler/blog/archives/001324.html#BloggyF1 ) However, this kind of extension to the parsing algorithm would be relatively independent of the rest of the specification, so lack of conclusive research in this area should not by any means slow down work on other areas of the draft or the publication of the draft as a WD. -- Henri Sivonen hsivonen@iki.fi http://hsivonen.iki.fi/
