Hi Paul, Sorry for the delay in responding. As noted, we hope to knuckle down on work around transcripts, and satisfying the need for a programmatically determinable link between a media element and the associated transcript. While some work was done in the past, the topic stalled with the Plan 2014 effort (it had gone to a WBS survey - Issue 194 - but never emerged https://www.w3.org//2002/09/wbs/40318/issue-194-objection-poll/results). Re-starting the discussion, we have listed the use-cases and requirements as we know them here: https://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Full_Transcript (see also: http://www.w3.org/TR/media-accessibility-reqs/#transcripts) (Note, there is one use-case not yet written into the wiki: search engines will also benefit hugely by the direct programmatic association we are seeking here) Some additional history and background can also be found here: http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/User:JFoliot/Issue194_Recap and specifically, at this time I believe we are looking at something close to this: http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/ISSUE-194/TranscriptElement (Introduction of a <transcript> element) As you are aware, Cynthia Shelly has secured a separate work space for the HTML-a11y TF attendees, as we also hope to look at some other accessibility related (but non-media specific) work items at the same time (keyboard interaction - a.k.a. accesskeys, panels & panel sets). Ideally some time with the Media TF to review what we have, and where we are heading would be most useful. From a scheduling perspective, perhaps early Thursday, or directly after lunch Thursday afternoon would allow us time to present where we are at, and solicit feedback and comments from the Media TF members then. (Note: there is a request that it NOT be scheduled late Thursday afternoon, as some of us have prior plans for then - thanks!) You should also feel free to update the F2F list of Potential Topics (see link above). If the only topic to be discussed is about “transcripts” then sending some background information on your “transcript” interests, questions or concerns BEFORE the F2F would be very useful. /paulc Paul Cotton, Microsoft Canada 17 Eleanor Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K2E 6A3 Tel: (425) 705-9596 Fax: (425) 936-7329
