I think there are a good number of apps in the Apple App Store that might have been implemented as standalone web apps if background location tracking were available to web apps like they are to native apps. Without feature parity native apps will continue to reign. An app I currently work on for my day job tracks deliveries and technician location for driving customer experiences and for identify "at-risk" jobs due to where a technician is (or, more importantly, isn't) physically.
