Instead of basing this upon the `::marker` pseudo-element, this could also be modeled after `text-emphasis` as a **`line-emphasis` property** in css-text-decor, especially if [`<'text-emphasis-style'>`](https://drafts.csswg.org/css-text-decor-4/#text-emphasis-style-property) was loosened a bit to match `<'list-style-type'>` more closely, including support for counters. Alas, I’m pretty certain that sooner or later authors will ask for a way to have more control over _emphasis marks_ (for characters and lines then), so they’d become the default content of special pseudo-element boxes after all. -- GitHub Notification of comment by Crissov Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/13329#issuecomment-3737531817 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
