Typically, I solve this problem like this: https://github.com/w3c-dvcg/ld-proofs/blob/master/index.html#L12 For the record, this is a major reason why I prefer NOT to transfer repositories if they are used to serve GitHub Pages. Instead I prefer to create a new repository, merge history and migrate issues, and cross link for provenance.
