Update on DID Resolution CCG work item

Hello CCG,

Many of you are also active in the DID WG, but for those who are not, I
wanted to give a general update on the DID Resolution work item.

So far, the DID Resolution spec
<https://w3c-ccg.github.io/did-resolution/> has been a separate document
with the status of a work item in the CCG (see meeting page
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qYBaXQMUoB86Alquu7WBtWOxsS8SMhp1fioYKEGCabE/>).

Since the DID WG F2F meeting
<https://www.w3.org/2019/did-wg/Meetings/F2F/2020.01.Amsterdam> in
Amsterdam earlier this year, there has been growing support for adding
certain DID Resolution related content into the DID Core specification,
specifically the "interfaces" or "contracts" of the DID Resolution and
DID URL Dereferencing including their inputs and outputs. There is now a
set of PRs 262 <https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/262>, 263
<https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/263>, 264
<https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/264>, 265
<https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/265> on the DID Core spec, which
are based on earlier PRs 247 <https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/247>
and 253 <https://github.com/w3c/did-core/pull/253>. In my opinion, all
this makes good sense and is heading into the right direction.

Regarding the weekly DID Resolution calls in the CCG, there has been
reduced participation during the last few weeks. I believe this is
because 1. attention and progress on this topic has now partially
shifted into the DID WG, and because 2. there is now another overlapping
community call at the regular time (the Secure Data Storage call).

I therefore propose the following next steps for this CCG work item:

1. Hold the regular DID Resolution weekly call tomorrow to discuss how
the developments on DID Core will affect the DID Resolution spec. (I
will send a separate reminder e-mail as usual)

2. NOT hold the regular DID Resolution weekly call next week due to IIW.

3. After that, discuss new perspectives and potential new call schedule
for the DID Resolution work item.

Markus
